30-day Hainan Visa entry point

I have booked a flight to Hainan. I am going from London > Shenzhen (2.5 hour layover) > Hainan leaving a week later in the opposite direction.

Am I eligible for the 30-day Hainan Visa or do I need a standard China visa?

Unfortunately, you need a standard Chinese tourist (L) visa because of your layovers in Shenzhen. In other words, it is not allowed to arrive to Hainan by direct flight from mainland China and to be able to enjoy Hainan 30 day visa free transit after that. The good part is that, if you are a UK citizen, that you can apply and obtain 2 year multiple entry visa and I suggest you to obtain one especially if you intend to travel to this part of the world more often. Please, keep in mind that you have to ask for this long term visa by specifically asking for one and by explaining that you plan to travel to China more often.
