About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Shanghai / Hong Kong

Hi,
I fear I've misunderstood the TWOL program so may be in for an expensive trip :-(.. I'm travelling with my family LHR=>PVG=>HKG=>LHR in December. I presume that I cannot have a transit visa and need to apply for a normal visa?
Thanks,
Neil

You don't need a transit visa or a "normal" visa. You will qualify for transit without visa as long as you do not exceed the time limit in Shanghai and your passports are from one of the 53 eligible countries. Why do think you have misunderstood it?

Thanks very much Saul - I'm much relieved! The comment below from Kimber seemed to reflect that CITY-X / PVG / HKG wasn't a valid visa-free transit route, but I clearly misunderstood!
Thanks again.

Kimber's itinerary doesn't qualify because it is HKG-PVG-HKG and there is no third country/region involved. That's why flying on Cathay Pacific from London won't work because you stop both ways in Hong Kong. Now, I hope you have listed all your stops and you are really flying LHR-PVG-HKG!
