About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

PEK to mongolia on different airlines

Hi,

We'll be flying into PEK and stay a few days and then hop on a flight to Ulan Bator. Is that eligible for a 144 visa free stay? And then on our way back we'll be taking the train from Ulan to PEK, can we use the 144 visa free in that case or should we get a Chinese Visa in Ulan?

Your first entry to PEK sounds ok for visa-free transit (assuming your flight to Beijing is not from mainland China or Mongolia). But you must have a Chinese visa to take the train from Mongolia. It might be just as easy and quicker to use a multiple entry visa for both entries.
