committing a minor crime in china

hi, a friend of mine was detained in china for a minor offense and is planning on returning to china next year, should he mention it/is that even considered as having a criminal record?

If he was not put into a prison, he needn't mention it.

well he wasn't in prison but in a detention center for 10 days.
