About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need a transit visa for a stay in Shanghai for less than 24 hours

I am an Indian citizen and will be flying from Toronto to New Delhi via Shanghai. The stopover Shanghai is about 18 hours. Can I move out of the airport without a visa or will I be issued a 24 hours transit visa. I dont intend to move out of Shanghai during that transit period, however would like to access a nearby hotel for rest before I catch the onward flight to New Delhi. Thanks! Himanshu.

Dear, actually it's 24h visa-free transit, not a 24 hours transit visa. Considering your long layover, it's very likely that you will be allowed to get out of the airport.
