Separate Tickets

Can my transit tickets be on separate tickets? Like purchase SFO - Shanghai returning Taipei - SFO on one ticket, then Shanghai to Taipei on a separate ticket?

Separate tickets are fine. This gets asked almost every day, I wish the owners of this website would add this information.
