About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Separate tickets

Can I use the 72 hour TWOV if I have one ticket from Paris to Shanghai (Pudong) and then a different ticket departing 48 hours later from Shanghai (Pudong) to Melbourne Australia? All tickets are confirmed, but ticketed separately.

Of course, you can. Separate tickets are accepted from the very beginning of visa free transit practice in China. You should just print out your flight tickets and have them with you in hard copy. You will declare in Paris, at check-in, that you will travel to Melbourne via Shanghai using 144 hour visa free transit.

Please, have in mind that 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Shanghai by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago.
