About:Hong Kong International Airport

I will be arriving 19 Oct 2019 from USA on United. We then transfer to Air Asia to Phuket.

Will we have to go out through customs and check back in on Air Asia? We will only have carry on luggage. The Air Asia app only provides a bar code, no boarding pass.

Yes, you need to go through customs. But you don't need to collect the luggage and recheck them.
