About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight from US to Shanghai then Shanghai to Hong Kong

I am a US citizen traveling for business from the United States directly to Shanghai. I plan to stay in Shanghai to conduct business for 72 hours, then fly to Hong Kong for 72 hours of business. I will then fly to Singapore for 72 hours of business, then back to the US. Do I need to apply for a VISA, or will the 144 hour visa-free rule apply to me? Thank you.

Your itinerary clearly qualifies for 144 hours transit without visa.

Your itinerary, under the condition that you don't have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China, is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area.
