24 hour visa free transit for Indian and Polish passport holders

Hi, I am Polish passport holder and my husband is Indian passport holder. We will travel from Thailand(Bangkok) to London with stop in Shenzhen. We will have 16h stop and in this time we would like to do some sightseeing in the city. Do we need to apply for visa in advance or on arrival will be ok?

If Shenzhen is your only stop within mainland China and your layover with duration of 16 hours, both of you are eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa. To be allowed to exit the airport in Shenzhen, you will apply for a temporary entry permit at 24 hour visa free transit counter. Since a temporary entry permit does not belong to passenger's rights, but depends entirely on immigration authorities discretion, you are advised to book an accommodation in advance, especially if your stop is during the night hours. You will bring the mentioned accommodation confirmation in hard copy, along with your e-tickets in hard copy too and the chances for a positive outcome will be really very good.

In the end, if you really want to be certain to be allowed to exit the airport, you are advised to obtain a transit (G) visas in advance. In my opinion, this is too much hassle and expense for just 16 hours in one city. OK, now you know your options and you will bring your decisions.
