About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Canadian, US perm. resident, several hours layover in HKG, need to travel to Foshan for 1-2 hours

Hi,
In ~2 weeks I am flying from the US through HKG airport with a several hour layover and looking to potentially travel to Foshan for a a few hours to check the status of a custom personal furniture item.

1. Is a visa still necessary for such a short duration into China? Would I be eligible for a 24-hr Transit without Visa option? If so, where can I obtain it?
2. If not, which visa type should I apply for? L? G?
3. What is the quickest and most cost-effective way to obtain a visa/permit? If I apply before I leave from the US, it takes several days and possibly up to $200 USD. Would it be quicker and more cost effective to apply for a visa/permit upon arrival? If so, which one, where, and how? and what is the quickest it can take?

Thanks!

Indeed, there is no easy solution. In reality, you can only rely on two available solutions:

- To obtain a Chinese visa in advance
- To use a visa free transit by taking a flight from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and to return by ferry from Shenzhen to Macau and from Macau immediately back to Hong Kong

If you only have booked your flight to Guangzhou, everything would be much easier.
