About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24 hr visa free transit

hi,
I have an Indian passport and travelling with a 10months old baby also having Indian passport. We are travelling from Narita (tokyo) to delhi via Shanghai. I have a 23 hr 55 mins halt in between flights. Can I avail the 24 hr visa free transit. Can I go out of the airport and stay at a hotel?

If Shanghai is your only stop within China and your layover of 23 hours and 55 minutes based on scheduled arrival - scheduled departure, you and your baby are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai.

You are advised to book your accommodation in advance and to print out your accommodation confirmation along with your flight tickets. You will apply for a temporary entry permit upon your arrival in Shanghai and there you will present your accommodation confirmation. Your chances to be allowed to exit the airport are really excellent, but you have to know that the final decision about it is always upon discretion of immigration authorities.
