About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit in Guangdong

Travel from us and back

I am a US citizen and I will be traveling from United States to Guangdong and then back to United States. I will be in Guangdong for 5-6 days visiting a factory for a business trip. Could I use the 144 hour visa free policy?

No, you cannot do that because an itinerary:

US - Guangdong province (Guangzhou or Shenzhen airports) - US

Is not a transit but a visit to China. To be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit you need a third country. My suggestion is that you use the option that will look like this:

US - Guangdong - Hong Kong - US

Or Hong Kong - Guangdong, of course. Anyway, keep in mind that in the case that you travel to Hong Kong first, you will have to fly from Hong Kong to Guangdong to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, but if Guagdong airports are first within your itinerary, you can also use a ferry or a train to Hong Kong. By the way, you will need a ticket for each of them if you want to travel in this way even before your departure from US.
