About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Mileage run: USA to Shanghai (PVG) back to the USA.

I am a US citizen needing to make a trip just to keep my airline status. I am considering a flight from the USA landing in Shanghai and returning to the USA less than 48 hours later. Would this itinerary be eligible for the 72 hour visa-free transit?

Of course not. Did you even read the article? You must be in transit to a third country.
