About:10-year China Visa for US and Canadian Citizens

Travel from YVR to TYO..

I'm travelling to Japan from Vancouver, and I have a connecting flight from PVG which lands around 1700. I be stay overnight to catch my connecting flight at 8am in the morning? On the trip back from TYO. I will arrive at SHA around 1630 then need to transfer to PVG to continue to go home to YVR around 2300.. Would I need a visa if I'm staying

No. However immigration will want to see proof of accomodation, otherwise they are likely to refuse entry.
