About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Free transit at PEK based on separate reservations?

I purchased two separate tickets, a round-trip from San Francisco (day 1) to Beijing (day 7), another round-trip from Beijing (day 4) to Seoul (day 7). I plan to enter Beijing from San Francisco on day 1, and leave Beijing within ~68 hours heading to Seoul, on day 4. Then, I will come back to Beijing on day 7, and will take another flight to San Francisco within ~4 hours.

1. In my first entry to Beijing, can I take advantage of 72 hours transit by showing my ticket to Seoul (which is a different reservation from the one I took to arrive at PEK)?
2. In my second entry to Beijing, can I stay in the airport using the 24 hours free transit policy?

To sum up, is it possible to show the ticket to a 3rd country from a separate reservation?
(I am Korean citizen, so eligible for 72-hours policy.)

Jerry, your entire itinerary is definitely eligible for visa free transit scheme.

During your first stop in Beijing, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Please, have in mind that 72 hour visa free transit has been replaced in Beijing by 144 hour visa free transit a couple of years ago

During your second stop in Beijing, your short transit will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit. Here I hope that your transit in Beijing will be on one airport and that you took care not to use both airports because 4 hours would be very tight to reach, for example Daxing airport from Capital airport. Also, have in mind that you will have to apply for temporary entry permit during your 4 hour layover because you will not fly on a single ticket, so you will have to be quite fast. It is perfectly doable, but a bit of agility is appreciated :)

1. Yes, you will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit
2. Yes, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit, bust since you will not fly on a single ticket, you will have to apply for temporary entry permit to be allowed to collect your luggage and to perform new check-in

Separate tickets are perfectly fine for your itinerary.
