About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit
Flying from HK to PVG and then Taipei. Do I need a visa or I can apply for the 144hours visa?

Your itinerary, under the condition that you don't have any additional landing of any kind, is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area and you don't need any kind of visa.
Please, just use correct terminology because it is 144 hour visa free transit and not 144 hours visa. There is no visa at all.0
