About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

British passport - fly to beijing from phillipines and return to phillipines 3 days later -

think I know the answer - but do I need to get a visa from UK

Of course you need a visa for that. But if you can add in another single stop (eg Philippines-Beijing-Hong Kong-Philippines or Philippines-Seoul-Beijing-Philippines etc) you won't need a visa.
