About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

transit visa of 72/144 SHANGHAI and ARRIVAL

I have now reached the point where information is concerned that we are eligible for a transit visa of 72/144. So now I wondered the following; We arrive in Shanghai - from Bangkok on Dec 01 at 00:30, departure back to Amsterdam on Dec 02 at 00:35. We are therefore here 24 hours.
I read several stories on the internet that this "free" visa only starts the day after arrival. This worries me…. Does this therefore mean that we cannot actually do anything during our 24-hour stop in Shanghai, since we arrive at 00:30 in Shanghai? We would like to go to Shanghai during this time. I hope you can tell something more about this.
I have called different sites and also embassies, with no results.

Start time is just referring to how to calculate end date of transit. It will be valid from Dec 01 until Dec 07 23:59 so actually more than 144 hours. You get the whole day of arrival + 144 hours
