Yes, you are fine to use these places for your transit through China. Here, just one small correction... Your entire travel through China is a transit and Chengdu and Lhasa will be a places where you will arrive and depart within that transit. In reality, Lhasa will be covered by a flight Kathmandu - Lhasa - Chengdu or vice versa on Sichuan Airlines under one flight number.
You have to be aware that the entire transit time is calculated from your first scheduled landing in China, until your last scheduled departure from China. So, if the total transit time, calculated in this way is less than 24 hours, you are definitely eligible for 24 hour visa free transit and you don't need any kind of visa.
