tourist visa for china with British passport

im wanting to travel to china for a week, and was wondering if I need to apply for a visa. I'm holding a British passport

It depends on your route. If you schedule a 6-day trip and arrange your travel route like country A - a 144-h visa-free transit zone in China - Country C, you may not need a visa. Otherwise, you need to apply for one in advance.
