Daniel, I will just c/p my post to your similar question on the other website:
Daniel, your by far better option is to use 144 hour visa free transit and not a Shenzhen VOA. The only detail here is that you will have to stay for at least 24 hours + 1 minute in Shenzhen to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Here is what you should do:
- You will book a ferry through Chu Kong Passenger Transport company that has to be, as I have previously mentioned at least 24 hours + 1 minute away from your scheduled landing in Shenzhen. Your ticket will be from Shenzhen Shekou port to Hong Kong Macau Ferry terminal. After you book this ticket, you will receive an e-confirmation on your email and you will print out that e-confirmation and keep it in hard copy with you
- You will declare in your country of origin that you will travel to Hong Kong via Shenzhen using 144 hour visa free transit scheme and you will present them your ferry e-confirmation
- Upon arrival in Shenzhen, you will approach 144 hour TWOV counter where you will fill out the blue form, get a sticker in your passport and be allowed to exit the airport and stay for up to 6 days
- You will take exactly that ferry you have bough your ticket for. You will bring your e-confirmation with you to Shenzhen Shekou ferry terminal and there you will exchange this e-confirmation with a real paper ticket and take a ferry to Hong Kong
This option is also very convenient for you because you are allowed to stay and travel throughout the entire Guangdong province and also, this is absolutely free of charge. On the other side, Shenzhen VOA for US citizens is 956 CNY!!!
