planning on a holiday to shanghai for more than 30 days and not sure how to go about it.

Im a UK citizen, but both my parents have chinese passports as well as british and i believe they are still citizens for shanghai. now since i dont have citizenship there im planning to visit between 30 to 60 days and i see the visa information allows up to 30 days how would i go about getting it for 60 days to stay in china?
a buddy of mine who moved to canada said i might be able to apply for citizenship as my parents are dual citizens he said i should be able to apply for one instead of getting a visa?

Dual nationality is not acceptable in China, so you should apply for a visa. if you get a single-entry visa with a duration of 30 days, you could extend it for another 30 days within China.

thanks for the reply, ye i spoke to family members and told me to get visa. im thinking of getting the visa that allows multiple entries as a friend said you can go for 3 weeks leave china for a few days and come back to reset the 30 entry is that true?

sorry for the million questions, im unsure which type of visa i should put down. im going on my own as a personal holiday which i that was the L tourism one, im going to visit some relatives but mostly spending my visit as a holiday. So as i was on the application i saw that there was another option i think if i read it right was the Q2. So now im abit confused on which one do i do? ah i forgot to mention its a 17 day trip.

Q2 requires an inviting party who can 1) be officially proven as a family member and 2) be a Chinese national with a Chinese resident ID card. The main difference is that it offers a longer duration of stay for each visit (usually 120-180 days after entry). If any of your grandparents is still with us then you can use them as the inviting party (I wouldn't recommend using your parents because of obvious reasons). As you are a British citizen there should not be much differences in costs between L and Q2.
