Opening a bank account in China on Work Visa.

I am in China and have a valid work permit, residence registered and passport. What do I need to open a Chinese Bank account so I can use wechat pay and Alipay? I was told maybe a tax ID number? Is this true? If so what bank branch can I open one at in Shanghai?

Generally speaking, you can take your passport and other valid documents to bank to get a card.
