About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

New e-application doesn’t list Hong Kong or Taiwan?

For the 144 hour TWOV, my routing takes me from Korea-Shanghai-Taipei. I can find all kinds of sites that say Taiwan and HK are considered different regions but the new online application does not list them as a region/country...and I can’t find anywhere official that says Taiwan and HK are considered a 3rd region. Can you direct me to somewhere to confirm this detail?

Kirsten, please don't worry about this detail because both Hong Kong and Taiwan (and Macau too) remain eligible territories for 144 hour TWOV. It was mentioned several times on this website that the online application is very often down and it appears that it makes more harm than good for its users. Just forget about the online application until it is significantly improved. This online application is not compulsory, so you will do everything you need upon your arrival in Shanghai.

If you want to make sure that Taiwan and Hong Kong have remained eligible I direct you to Timatic, without any doubt the most authoritative source for the information of this kind. Trust me, at the time being, at this very moment, when you read this post, there are people who use Taiwan and Hong Kong as their third eligible regions for their visa free transit journeys.
