Yes, you do in principle. When I say in principle, I have the following conditions in mind:
- Your flight from US to Beijing should not have any additional landing within mainland China and in Thailand
- Your flight from Beijing to Thailand should not have any additional landing within mainland China
If the above conditions are fulfilled, you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Beijing area.
As far as your flight back is concerned, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and you should keep in mind that although you are allowed to have an additional landing within mainland China under this visa free transit scheme, you should not exceed 24 hours if this is a case (more than one landing within mainland China).
By the way, your layover in Beijing is relatively short, just 2 hours, so I hope you are traveling on a single (through) ticket because otherwise it would be very hard to catch your onward flight.
