Your itinerary is fine for for 24/144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai twice, in principle. Anyway, to be completely certain about your eligibility, your itinerary has to fulfill the following conditions:
- Your flight from Australia to Shanghai should not have a stop of any kind within the mainland China and in Japan
- Your cruise should not have its first port of call, immediately after Shanghai, in mainland China
- Your cruise should not have its last port of call, immediately before Shanghai, in mainland China
- Your flight from Shanghai to Australia should not have a stop of any kind within mainland China and in Japan
If the above conditions are fulfilled, you are eligible for 24/144 hour visa free transit during your stays in Shanghai. You will be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit during your first stay in Shanghai and for 24 or 144 hour visa free transit during your second stay in Shanghai in relation to the entire duration of your transit time.
