About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

UK & Ireland Visas

We are 2 people travelling from the UK to Chengdu (1 with a UK passport and 1 with an Irish passport) arriving at 12:40 pm on 19 May (overnight), then a 3 day Yangtze River Cruise (20-22 May), before getting a train to Shanghai (overnight) and boarding a ship sailing to Japan on 23 May. We arrive back at Shanghai at around 7am before taking a flight at 20:05. What visa would I require please and can I get these from London (for both the UK and Irish passport)?

You need a single entry Chinese tourist (L) visa that will cover your first arrival/stay in China because this part simply cannot be resolved in any imaginable visa free option. Your second arrival in China will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit, so you will not need a visa for that. Of course, under the condition that your flight from Shanghai to Europe does not have any additional landing of any kind within mainland China and Japan. Both of you can obtain a visa at CVASC (Chinese Visa Application Service Center) in London. You as a UK citizen can obtain a 2-year multiple entry visa, but you have to require for one and your argument has to be that you intend to travel to China more often. Your Irish colleague will not be able to obtain the same.
