Please, keep in mind that you will need a ferry ticket in your hand before the start of your trip. You can buy your ticket through TurboJet ferry website on the route Shenzhen Shekou to Macau. You will receive and e-confirmation that you have to print out and have it with you all the time. This e-confirmation will be used as a proof for your transit intentions. You will collect your real ticket upon your arrival at Shekou terminal. Between Guangzhou and Shenzhen you can take whatever mean of transport you want.

You are right:

- You just need to book your ferry ticket from Shenzhen Shekou port to Macau, but keep in mind that you have to print out the e-confirmation and have it with you
- You can definitely travel between Guangzhou and Shenzhen by any transport. The fastest is the train, of course

You are not right:

- Your flight from Macau to some third country IS ALLOWED to have a landing in China and even more, you are allowed to have new 144 hour visa free transit in the city of your choice.

To explain... Your first itinerary will be:

Stockholm - Guangzhou (144 hour TWOV) - Macau

When you have entered Macau, your transit is over and you can start a new one. For example:

Macau - Beijing (144 hour TWOV) - Stockholm

These are two separate transits, absolutely unrelated to each other because Macau is considered a third country for visa free transit purposes.
