Zupan ….. As mentioned above, I fly from BNE to PVG via SIN, then after cruise ends in Singapore, I have a full day to tour before flying out of SIN for direct flight to BNE. Question: Do I need Visa to enable me to leave airport in SIN before flight to BNE ?

You do a wonderful service with your honest advice to people like myself, who are 'perplexed' first time travellers.

Many thanks

This is a cruise with Sapphire Princess ship. I can immediately tell you that you are perfectly eligible for 24 hour visa free transit in Shanghai. The reason why you are not eligible for 144 hour visa free transit is in the fact that your entire transit time in Shanghai is noticeably less than 24 hours and in that case 24 hour TWOV is implemented. In your case, this is perfectly the same because you will be perfectly allowed to enjoy your transit and your entire time in Shanghai visa free.

Let's go port by port or even better, country by country:

- China (Shanghai) - This is resolved and you don't need a visa since you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit
- South Korea (Busan) - Australian citizens don't need a visa
- Japan (Kagoshima) - Australian citizens don't need a visa
- Taiwan (Hualien and Kaohsiung) - Australian citizens don't need a visa
- Hong Kong (Hong Kong) - Australian citizens don't need a visa
- Vietnam (Nha Trang and Ho Chi Ming City) - Australian citizens need a visa. Princess Cruises arrange Vietnam visa for their passengers on board and that visa is valid for both ports. Please, keep in mind that their fee for this visa is 56 AUD if the prices are in AUD or 56 USD if the prices on the cruise are presented in USD. This is a bit costly visa, but Princess is holding this price for quite a time. Maybe they will lower it, but I advise you to be ready to pay this price.
- Thailand (Bangkok and Ko Samui) - Australian citizens don't need a visa
- Singapore (Singapore) - Australian citizens don't need a visa

As you can see, you will need just a visa for Vietnam and it will be definitely handled by Princess. All other destinations are visa free or your transit is visa free like in Shanghai.

By the way, you are definitely allowed to leave the airport in Singapore before your flight to Brisbane because Australian citizens don't need a visa for Singapore.

Hope this helps.

Zupan, you are a wonderful help to many, all of us seeking assistance in understanding complexities of travelling abroad, particularly in knowing which Asian countries require tourist to have a visa.
Yes, I was a worried about the conflicting advise given elsewhere, but you have resolved that.
I do appreciate your kindness and willingness in helping me with the detail you have clearly given in relation to the Grand Asian Cruise my family will hopefully enjoy aboard Sapphire Princess.

Again, a HUGE THANK YOU for your friendly response and details given.
