About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does the stop over fligt count?

Hello,

One relative is going to visit us in Shanghai. He comes from the US, and then flies to spain. The problem is that on both flights he makes a stopover in hongkong. Is he elegible for 114h visa?

In case he is not, could he purchase a cheap ticket to another country (e.g korea) to show to immigration, even check-in, but then at the end get the original flight?

Thanks!!

Dear, if he flies from HK to mainland China and then to HK, he cannot enjoy the visa-free transit, even if he is just having layover in HK.

He may purchase a cheap ticket to Korea and show it to the immigration, but eventually change to another flight, however, this is a little risky.

The advice from "Bill" is irresponsible. You should NEVER try to cheat or lie to Chinese immigration (or any country's immigration, in fact). You will be found out and the consequences might be unpleasant, and may include detention, a fine, and a ban from China. If you buy another ticket, you MUST fly it. Or else get a visa. Don't even think about trying to deceive Chinese police.
