About:Visa on Arrival

Pleas help me ! I currently live in Hong Kong but I have to visit Guangzhou directly after Shenzhen.

I know I can get my VOA as I go a lot, however I’ve never followed through into mainland China and I’m not sure how to get a visa.

My friends and I are all dancers so we travel a lot and they all tell me no one checks so I can just use the high speed train to get there and return as I’m just visiting my friends shop for a couple of hours and returning back to HK through Shenzhen.

Do I need to get a separate visa, or do you think it’s worth the risk just getting to the shop and back? Please help. I don’t want to pay £35 to be in one shop in shenzhen for 2 two then more for another visa in guangzhou to come back to HK the same day !! :(

Korina, you are perfectly aware that you are not allowed to do that. Of course, your friends are right when they tell you that you will not be probably checked for your visa when traveling to Guangzhou by the police on the street or similar, but you should be aware that you will need to present your passport at the time of your purchase of train or bus ticket. Also, it could happen that your passport is checked by the security personnel at the train/bus station. What could happen? Probably most of them will just refuse to sell you a ticket and will tell you to move away, but some of them can really call a police. In this case, the fine and the additional problems could be noticeably more expensive than a visa.

Also, those friends who have supplied you with such an advice are probably Asian looking and they can easily mingle with the local people in Shenzhen and Guangzhou, but this is definitely not the case with you and with your European look. I sincerely advise you not to do that.

Hi, my friends are all European also, mainly Russian.

But thank you for this advice! Can you advice me on which visa I need to get and how to apply for it? I’ve been searching all over but I can’t seem to find it and I don’t want to do it wrong.

Thank you

You need a Chinese tourist (L) visa. I suggest you to apply for a Chinese visa through CVASC located in Hong Kong. You can also rely on one or two very reliable agencies that offer great support during the visa issuing process, but they are also more expensive than CVASC. Trust me, this is not such a complicated procedure. Also, when you obtain a visa, you can travel to Guangzhou directly by high speed train from Kowloon West railway station.

That’s great thank you. I am living on the Island anyway and I go into Shenzhen a lot so that wouldn’t be a problem to pass through there.

Thank you again 🙏🏼

In case that you are a resident of Hong Kong and hold a HK ID, my suggestion is that you apply for multiple entry visa that can be issued by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Hong Kong for the residents holding HK ID. This is by far the best solution because it will enable you to travel to Shenzhen and the rest of China practically as much as you wish.

I don’t have an ID as I’m not a resident. It’s my boyfriend that has a visa here with a 4 year contract. I live here but I don’t work, so I don’t have visa or ID..

Anyway, you can apply for a regular tourist visa. Don't risk doing anything wrong.
