About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2 Canadians travelling from Vancouver (CAN) to Brisbane (AUS) with a 17 hour layover in Shenzhen.

We would like to leave the airport and explore the city during this time. From what I gather we will require a 24 hour visa-free entry permit which we can apply for at the Shenzhen airport? Please let me know if this is correct or if I am missing any information.

Thanks!

You are right. You will apply for a 24 hour free entry permit upon your landing in Shenzhen. My suggestion is that you book an accommodation if your layover is during the night or at least encompasses a good part of the night hours. I assume that this is the case since you will probably use HU7960 to reach Shenzhen. You should book your accommodation in advance and have a booking confirmation in hard copy. So, with a layover of 17 hours and a confirmed accommodation, your chances to be granted a permit are practically certain.
