About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need to apply for 24 hour visa if I am just in transit to connect to Okinawa Japan?

I enter China by Chengdu airport and have a connection time of 1 hour and 55 to go to hong kong and finally Okinawa japan. Do I need to register anywhere if I am just transferring? I am a US passport holder. and my connection is early in the morning. I can't do online check-in because of the type of ticket I bought. I do have the reservation showing that i have a flight.

If your itinerary is:

X country - Chengdu - Hong Kong

And you are traveling with only 1 hour 55 minutes in transit, your transit is undoubtedly covered by 24 hour visa free transit and you don't have to do anything, but to declare in the X country at the check-in that you will fly from there to Hong Kong through Chengdu in China by using 24 hour visa free transit. You will present the printouts of your tickets as a proof and you will be allowed to board the plane.

After that everything is simple because after your arrival in Chengdu, you will present that same tickets and you will stay airside for your onward flight to Hong Kong. I assume that you are flying on a single (through) ticket because the time between the two flights is relatively short.
