About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

China Stops

I have a flight booked from Denver, CO, USA - Beijing, landing on November 29 at 16:35 (4:35 PM). My final destination is Bali, but I have not booked a flight from Beijing to Bali yet. I am seeing a flight option that leaves Beijing on December 2 at 2:30 AM, but it has a short layover in Hong Kong. I would depart Hong Kong at 12:20, so I would get out of China within the 72 hours. Does the flight layover in Hong Kong mess up the free 72 hour visa?

Lisa, your itinerary:

US - Beijing - Hong Kong - Bali

Is perfectly eligible for 144 hour (72 hour TWOV was replaced by 144 hour TWOV a couple of years ago) visa free transit. Hong Kong is fine as your stop since it is considered to be eligible as the third country for visa free transit purposes.

By the way, since there are no direct flights from Denver to Beijing, I assume that your flight to Beijing will take place from some other US airport, right?
