About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Melbourne (Australia) - Guangzhou - Changsha - Frankfurt

Hi, this is Jessie. My flight is from Melbourne to Guangzhou on 1/09/19, arrive in Guangzhou at 6:05pm on the same day. Then I will be flying from Guangzhou to Frankfurt on 02/09/19 at 9:30pm via Changsha (arrive at Changsha at 22:50pm, then depart from Changsha for Frankfurt on 03/09/19 12:05am.) When I booked the ticket, I didn't intend to go to Changsha, but since the flight stop there for about an hour, we have to be there. We are not going out of the airport. My question is, obviously according to the 24 hours transit without a visa rule, I am ineligible as my stop over time in Guangzhou or China is more than 24 hours. So am I eligible for 72 hours or 144 hours transit without visa? Please advise.

Thanks Zupan for your prompt reply. I have to say the rules are a bit inflexible.

Jessie, unfortunately, you are not eligible for any kind of visa free transit scheme in China. Simply speaking, having two consecutive stops within mainland China limits you to 24 hours and disqualifies you for 72/144 hour visa free transit options. Since you have exceeded the mentioned 24 hours, you will have to obtain a Chinese transit (G) visa in advance.
