About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Does my trip qualify for the 144 hour transit visa?

We are flying from PHL to CHI to PVG. Then sailing on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line 7 nights to Japan. Final port is back in Shanghi. Then we will fly from PVG to CHI to PHL.

Assuming that you are US citizen, everything that matters is your itinerary! So, if your itinerary is:

US - Shanghai - Japan - Shanghai - US

You are perfectly eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice. Whether it will be 24 or 144 hours depends on the period between your scheduled arrival in Shanghai and your scheduled departure from Shanghai.

Also, you should have in mind the following conditions:

- Your cruise should not have its first and its last port call, immediately after and before Shanghai, in mainland China
- Your flights to and from Shanghai should not have any additional landing in mainland China and Japan

If the above conditions are fulfilled and your itinerary is as mentioned above, you are perfectly eligible for visa free transit in Shanghai twice.
