Hello! A quick question, to be eligible for 72/144 visa-free transit you need a flight ticket with a transit in China from/to 2 different countries or It could be 2 separate tickets too, for example:
Thailand-Chengdu (direct flight) with Air China
Chengdu-Emirates (direct flight) with Ethiad

Even before your trip, you will need both tickets in your hand. Also, having separate tickets is perfectly acceptable.

By the way, your itinerary Thailand - Chengdu - UAE is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit if your passport belongs to the group of 53 eligible countries.
