About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

URUMQI VISA

Hello, we are travelling from Vienna to Langkawi, do we need transit visa in Urumqi?
We stay in Urumqi 1:55 hod and on way back its just a technical stop..

Our flight schedule

From Vienna:
Vienna -> Urumqi (CZ6022)
Urumqi -> Guangzhou (CZ6047)
Guanghzou -> Langkawi (CZ8657)

From Langkawi:
Langkawi -> Guangzhou (CZ6048)
Guangzhou -> Vienna (CZ6021) / stopover: v Urumqi (URC)

Boris, you have mixed up the flights for your first itinerary. Correct order or better to say flight numbers are:

Vienna - Urumqi (CZ6022)
Urumqi - Guangzhou (CZ8657)
Guangzhou - Langkawi (CZ6047)

Here you need a transit (G) visa because you have a transfer from international flight (CZ6022) to a domestic flight (CZ8657) and that is not allowed in Urumqi. Beside the mentioned, your transit time in Urumqi is longer that a maximum of 2 hours. If you only have used CZ6022 all the way to Guangzhou you would not need a visa at all.

Your itinerary for your fly back home is fine and it does not require a visa because you will take a flight CZ6021 that is a through international flight from Guangzhou to Vienna via Urumqi and is confirmed eligible for 24 hour visa free transit.

To summarize, you need a transit (G) visa with one entry.
