144 Hour-Visa question (Seattle - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Seattle)

I’m from the U.S. and my travel plans include the following stops:

Seattle to Shanghai (4 night stay)
Shanghai to Hong Kong (4 night stay as well)
Hong Kong to Seattle

From what I’ve read I’m eligible for the 144 visa with the Seattle-Shanghai-Hong Kong trip however does it make a difference that my flight back home to Seattle from Hong Kong has a 5 hour layover in Beijing?

Trying to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Thanks!

Dear, you mean that your return trip is Seattle -Shanghai-Hong Kong-Beijing-Seattle? If so, you can enjoy 144h visa exemption transit twice.
