Do I need a visa to stay three nights in Shanghai at the end of a cruise?

Our cruise concludes in Shanghai and we have added a three night stay to our holiday prior to returning home to Australia.

Yes, you are allowed to do that visa free by applying for 144 hour visa free transit. Anyway, to be eligible you have to fulfill the following conditions:

- Your last port call, immediately before Shanghai, should not be in mainland China
- Your flight from Shanghai to Australia or some other country should not have any landing within mainland China and the country where your cruise had its last port call, immediately before Shanghai

If the above mentioned conditions are fulfilled, you are definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Shanghai area.
