About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu

Concern regarding itinerary (coutries A and B)

Hi! My parents are coming to visit me in Asia (I'm working in Cambodia) and want to go see China. We cannot get a Visa, in such a short time, so we will have to benefit from the 144 hour visa free transit.
The plan is to do Thailand (Bangkok) - China (Shanghai) - Cambodia (Phnom Penh). Technically we are leaving country A, going to China and then travelling to country B, but I'm concerned that we get in trouble since Thailand and Cambodia are neighbouring countries and there is "no need" to go to China to transit... Can this be a problem? Thank you!!

This is not a problem. An itinerary Thailand (Bangkok) - China (Shanghai) - Cambodia (Phnom Penh) is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Simply speaking, Chinese immigration authorities are not interested whether you are really in transit or just a "bit creative". Just one example that appears to be drastic... People from Hong Kong take a flight to Beijing, Shanghai or some third mainland Chinese city, enjoy 144 hour visa free transit and return to Macau :) Could you imagine two closer airports for making a transit among them through at least one thousand kilometers distant airport!? So, your example is not so drastic at all.

All you have to have in mind is that your flights don't have any additional stops en route!
