About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

macau- zhuhai- hong kong

May I travel with a visa free transit if I enter China from Macau (by road), stay 4 days in Zhuhai and then leave Zhuhai to go to Hong Kong airport (to fly home to UK?)

No, you are not allowed to do that. Any kind of visa free transit originating from Hong Kong & Macau to Guangdong province has to be by plane from Hong Kong to Guangzhou.

Anyway, you can perform your travel plan by obtaining Zhuhai VOA at the border crossing between Macau and Zhuhai. Zhuhai VOA is valid for 3 days, but if you arrive in the morning, your first day of the validity of VOA begins in the midnight of the following day, so you can have almost 4 days for Zhuhai.

From Zhuhai, precisely from Jiuzhou port, you can take a ferry directly to Hong Kong airport. There are four daily ferries from Jiuzhou port, so maybe one of them will be suitable for your flight back home. You can see the ferry sailing schedule at Chu Kong Passenger Transport company website.
