About:Shanghai 15-day Visa-free Policy for Cruise Tour Groups

We fly from the Uk to Shanghai and then stay in Shanghai for 2 nights.

We then board a cruise ship to sail solely around Japan for 7 days then cruise back into SH where we then get a flight home to England. Please could you help re visa requirements and what would happen and someone takes ill on the ship and we have to dock somewhere else in china. Many thanks

Your itinerary is eligible for visa free transit in China, but it has to fulfill several conditions:

- Your flight from UK to Shanghai should not have any additional landing in mainland China and Japan
- Your first port call, immediately after Shanghai, should not be in mainland China
- Your last port call, immediately before Shanghai, should not be in mainland China
- Your flight from Shanghai to UK should not have any additional landing in mainland China and Japan

I assume that you are fine with the above conditions and according to your description, I would say that you will use 144 hour visa free transit during your first stop in Shanghai and 24 hour visa free transit during your second stop in that city.

In case of force majeure, like serious illness, there are procedures that will allow to the sick person to be evacuated and properly treated. These procedures are covered by so called emergency visas. Don't worry, you will not need one :)
