Do I qualify for 144 visa free transit?

Our first departure country is Japan but it is not direct (we have connecting flight from Korea to Shanghai). Our next country on itinerary is 3 days later to Korea. Are we still eligible since we are coming from Korea (via connecting flight, not original travel country) then leaving to Korea?

Jenny, your itinerary is Korea - Shanghai - Korea, right? If so, you are not eligible for 144h transit without visa.

It is Japan - Shanghai - Korea but the Japan to Shanghai flight is not direct, there is a connecting flight in Korea with 1.5hr layover

Jenny, so it is Japan-Korea-Shanghai-korea, right? If so, your itinerary is not eligible for 144h visa exemption transit and you should apply for visa in advance.
