About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will we need visas for China or can we use the 144 hours visa free transit?

We will travel to Shanghai from UK (via Abu Dhabi), spend two nights in a hotel in Shanghai & then join a cruise to South Korea & other countries. Our return flight is from Sydney Australia. Will we need visas for China or can we use the 144 hours visa free transit?

Your itinerary:

UK - Abu Dhabi - Shanghai - South Korea

Is definitely eligible for 144 hour visa free transit. Anyway, there are several conditions that have to be fulfilled:

- Your flight from Abu Dhabi to Shanghai should not have any additional landing within mainland China and South Korea
- Your first port call, immediately after Shanghai, should not be in mainland China

As far as I have understood, you will just proceed with your cruise to other countries with the final destination in Sydney in Australia.

The part that I don't understand is your return flight. You have mentioned it, but you didn't mention its itinerary! If the flight goes again via China, I assume that you will have just one stop there, right? If this is the case, you will be again eligible for visa free transit, but to be able to answer precisely, I really need your flight itinerary for your journey back to, I assume, UK.
