About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Travel from US to Tianjin and Potentially Beijing

Good Afternoon, I will be traveling on business from the US to Tianjin arriving on Monday (July 22, 2019) and departing on Friday (July 26, 2019), so Tianjin > US within 144 hrs. am I eligible for a 144 hour transit free visa?
2) If I want to go to the city for a day of site seeing, so US > Tianjin > BJ > US, am I still eligible for a 144 hour transit free visa?

This is a trip to China and not a transit thus a visa is necessary. Other option is to select flights that continue to a third country before returning to the US.

If you have already booked you are running out of time at this point. Rush visa by appearing in person to local embassy. Other option is to book (and actually fly) to day trip to a third country (non-stop flight) and back in order to become eligible for the TWOV. Like day trip to Macau, Taiwan or Hong Kong for example.
