About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa to go out from the airport and visit the city

Hi,
We wanna travel from UK to Thailand, tranzit in Beijing one way and Chengdu the other way. We’ll stop over for about 15-18 hours, and want to go out from the airport and visit the city.
I am Roumanian citizen (EU) living in the UK, EU passport holder, my friend in Iranian, living in the UK - travel document holder.

Your itineraries are definitely qualified for 24 hour visa free transit.

If you want to exit the airport, you will have to apply for 24 hour free entry permit upon your landing in Beijing/Chengdu. If your layover is during the night, your chances to be allowed to exit the airport are quite good, especially if you make an advance accommodation booking. Anyway, you should be aware that the issuing of entry permit is not a passenger's right, but it depends entirely upon discretion of immigration authorities on the very day of your landing in the mentioned Chinese cities.
