About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Onward journey need to be same ticket or not

To enjoy the 144hr visa free transit, does the onward travel from a Chinese port (after a transit) need to be booked on the same ticket or can they be separate?

For example, Melbourne to Guangzhou in one return ticket (MEL to CAN 20 Jul; CAN to MEL 06 Aug) and Guangzhou to LAX on a separate return ticket (CAN to LAX 24 Jul; LAX to CAN 02 Aug)

In reality, you have two, let's say, itineraries:

Melbourne - Guangzhou - Los Angeles
Los Angeles - Guangzhou - Melbourne

If the above itineraries don't have any additional landings and you are of Australian citizenship, you are qualified for 144 hour visa free transit in Guangzhou (in reality within the entire Guangdong province) twice, regardless of the type of your tickets. In reality, separate tickets are treated in the same way as the single one as long as the itinerary is eligible.
