About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is this itinerary eligible for a free 72hr pass?

We have a flight in December. We're flying in from Phuket, thailand at 1:10pm on the 18th into Beijing and leaving from Beijing at 5:25pm on the 21st. Would we be able to apply for the 72hr free visa at the airport in Beijing? Thank you.

Andrea, you didn't mention where you will depart to from Beijing. This is very important detail.

OK, I will assume that you will fly to some other destination different from both China and Thailand. So, if your itinerary looks like this one:

Phuket - Beijing - X country (different from both China and Thailand)

Then you are eligible for 144 hour visa free transit (72 hours were replaced by 144 hours a couple of years ago) in Beijing. You should just keep in mind that it is not allowed to have any additional landings within mainland China during your entire itinerary.
